2. Die koning het toe die Gibeoniete laat roep. Hulle was natuurlik nie Israeliete nie, maar 'n oorblyfsel van die Amoriete. Die Israeliete het 'n verdrag met hulle gesluit gehad, maar later het Saul hulle probeer uitroei in sy geesdrif vir die saak van Israel en Juda.
