21. Abner sê toe vir Dawid: "Met u verlof gaan ek nou die hele Israel by u, die koning, bymekaarbring sodat hulle met u 'n verdrag kan sluit; dan sal u koning wees volgens u hartsbegeerte." Dawid het daartoe ingestem en Abner het ongehinderd vertrek.
