17. Tenkrát vyslal Izrael posly k edómskému králi se žádostí: »Dovol, abych prošel tvou zemí«, ale edómský král nechtěl ani slyšet. Poslal také k moábskému králi, ale ani on nesvolil. Proto zůstal Izrael v Kádeši.
