1. Da zuckte der König zusammen, stieg in den oberen Raum des Tores hinauf und weinte. Während er hinaufging, rief er (immer wieder): Mein Sohn Abschalom, mein Sohn, mein Sohn Abschalom! Wäre ich doch an deiner Stelle gestorben, Abschalom, mein Sohn, mein Sohn!
