9. Ptolemaios määras siis otsekohe kuninga ühe parema sõbra Nikanori, Patroklose poja, andes temale mitte vähem kui kakskümmend tuhat meest, kogutud igasugu rahvaist, ja läkitas tema, et ta hävitaks kogu juutide soo. Temale abiks andis ta Gorgiase, väepealiku ja sõjapidamises vilunud mehe.
