5. Sitten Daavid lähti liikkeelle. Hän saapui paikalle, johon Saul oli leiriytynyt, ja näki missä Saul ja hänen sotaväkensä päällikkö Abner, Nerin poika, nukkuivat. Saulin makuupaikka oli leirin keskellä, ja miehet olivat asettuneet hänen ympärilleen.
