7. Näin tapahtui siksi, että israelilaiset olivat tehneet syntiä Herraa, Jumalaansa vastaan. Vaikka Herra oli tuonut heidät pois Egyptin maasta ja vapauttanut heidät faraon, Egyptin kuninkaan, vallasta, he olivat ryhtyneet palvelemaan muita jumalia.
