18. Seitsemäntenä päivänä lapsi kuoli. Palvelijat eivät uskaltaneet kertoa Daavidille lapsen kuolemasta, sillä he ajattelivat: "Kun me puhuimme hänelle pojan vielä eläessä, hän ei kuunnellut meitä. Kuinka me nyt voisimme sanoa hänelle, että poika on kuollut? Hän voi tehdä jotakin epätoivoista."
