4. Kuultuaan Jeremian sanat päämiehet sanoivat kuninkaalle: "Tämä mies on ansainnut kuoleman! Jos hän jatkaa tuollaisia puheita, hän murtaa niiden sotilaiden rohkeuden, jotka vielä ovat jäljellä tässä kaupungissa, ja muutkin asukkaat menettävät toivonsa. Tämä mies ei etsi kansamme etua vaan tuottaa meille vahinkoa."
