40. Joosua kukisti koko maan ja valloitti vuoriston, Negevin alueen, läntiset kukkulat ja itäiset rinteet. Hän surmasi näiden seutujen kuninkaat eikä päästänyt ainoatakaan heistä pakenemaan. Hän julisti Herralle kuuluvaksi uhriksi kaikki elävät olennot ja hävitti ne, kuten Herra, Israelin Jumala, oli käskenyt.
