17. He lähettivät Edomin kuninkaan luo sananviejiä pyytämään lupaa kulkea hänen maansa kautta, mutta Edomin kuningas ei suostunut pyyntöön. Myös Moabin kuninkaalle he lähettivät saman viestin, mutta hänkään ei suostunut, ja niin israelilaisten oli jäätävä Kadesiin.
