5. Hän päätti lähettää sananviejiä Bileamin, Beorin pojan luo. Tämä asui Eufratin varrella Petorissa, maassa, jossa oli Balakin heimolaisia. Balak käski sanoa hänelle: "Egyptistä on lähtenyt liikkeelle kokonainen kansa. Maa on sitä jo mustanaan, ja nyt tuo kansa on asettunut aivan minun maani rajoille.
