17. Silloin Daavid meni heitä vastaan, lausui ja sanoi heille: "Jos te tulette minun luokseni rauha mielessä, auttaaksenne minua, niin minun sydämeni yhtyy teihin; mutta jos te tulette kavaltamaan minua vihollisilleni, vaikkei väkivalta minun käsiäni tahraa, niin nähköön meidän isiemme Jumala sen ja rangaiskoon".
