Ezeket a városokat állapították meg Izrael valamennyi fia számára és minden jövevény számára, aki közöttük lakott, hogy ezekbe meneküljön, aki valakit akaratlanul megölt, hogy meg ne haljon a kiontott vért megbosszulni akaró rokonnak a keze által, míg a nép elé nem áll, hogy számot adjon ügyéről.
