1. Daud berpikir dalam hatinya, "Bagaimanapun juga pada suatu hari Saul akan membunuhku. Jadi, tak ada jalan lain lagi bagiku, kecuali melarikan diri ke negeri Filistin. Dengan demikian Saul tidak akan mencariku lagi di Israel, dan aku pun akan aman."
