7. Raja Babel telah mengangkat Gedalya menjadi gubernur di Yehuda untuk memerintah atas semua orang yang masih tinggal di Yehuda, yaitu orang-orang yang paling miskin. Sebagian dari para perwira dan prajurit Yehuda yang tidak menyerah kepada Babel, mendengar tentang pengangkatan Gedalya itu.
