45. En lýðurinn sagði við Sál: 'Á Jónatan að láta lífið, hann sem unnið hefir þennan mikla sigur í Ísrael? Fjarri sé það! Svo sannarlega sem Drottinn lifir, skal ekki eitt höfuðhár hans falla til jarðar, því að með Guðs hjálp hefir hann unnið í dag.' Og fólkið leysti Jónatan út undan lífláti.
