4. Þá sagði Sál við skjaldsvein sinn: 'Bregð þú sverði þínu og legg mig í gegn með því, svo að óumskornir menn þessir komi ekki og fari háðulega með mig.' En skjaldsveinninn vildi ekki gjöra það, því að hann var mjög hræddur. Þá tók Sál sverðið og lét fallast á það.
