8. Og er sól var upp komin, sendi Guð brennheitan austanvind, og skein sólin svo heitt á höfuð Jónasi, að hann örmagnaðist. Þá óskaði hann sér dauða og sagði: 'Mér er betra að deyja en lifa!'
