23. ಸೈನಿಕರು ಯೇಸುವನ್ನು ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಹಾಕಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆತನ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಸೈನಿಕ ನಿಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಭಾಗದಂತೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಭಾಗಗಳನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಆತನ ಮೇಲಂಗಿಯನ್ನು ಸಹ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡರು; ಆದರೆ ಆ ಅಂಗಿಯು ಹೊಲಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಮೇಲಿನಿಂದ ಉದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ನೇಯ್ದದ್ದಾಗಿತ್ತು.
