2. Saul koos uit Israel drieduizend mannen uit, waarvan er tweeduizend onder bevel van Saul zelf te Mikmas en op de berg bij Betel kwamen te liggen, en duizend onder Jonatan te Gibea in Benjamin. De rest van het volk liet hij naar huis gaan, een ieder naar zijn eigen tent.
