45. Maar het volk zei tot Saul: ‘Moet Jonatan sterven? Hij die zo’n grote overwinning voor Israel bewerkt heeft? Geen denken aan! Zowaar Jahwe leeft, geen haar op zijn hoofd zal worden gekrenkt, want met Gods hulp heeft hij vandaag de overwinning behaald.’ Zo werd Jonatan door het volk gered en stierf hij niet.
