17. Eens zei Saul tot David: ‘Hier is Merab, mijn oudste dochter; haar zal ik u tot vrouw geven, op voorwaarde dat u in mijn dienst een dapper man bent en de oorlogen van Jahwe voert.’ Saul dacht: ‘Niet mijn hand moet zich tegen hem keren, maar de hand van de Filistijnen.’
