24. Antiochus meende dat de vrouw op hem smaalde en hij verdacht haar van beledigende taal. Daarom trachtte hij haar jongste zoon, de enige die nog in leven was, niet alleen met vermanende woorden over te halen de voorvaderlijke zeden te verloochenen, maar hij beloofde ook onder ede, dat hij hem rijk en gelukkig zou maken, dat hij hem zou opnemen onder zijn vrienden en hem het beheer van staatszaken zou toevertrouwen.
