1. Jozua, de zoon van Nun, stuurde vanuit Sittim twee spionnen weg met de opdracht: ‘Gaat het land erkennen, en bekijkt met name Jericho.’ Zij gingen op weg en kwamen in het huis van een hoer, die Rachab heette. Daar bleven zij slapen.
