2. Saul koos uit Israël drieduizend mannen, van wie er tweeduizend onder zijn bevel in Mikmas en op de berg bij Betel kwamen te liggen. Duizend mannen vielen onder het bevel van Jonatan in Gibea van Benjamin. De rest van het volk liet hij naar huis gaan, ieder naar zijn eigen tent.
