24. Van de Israëlieten werd die dag het uiterste gevraagd, doordat Saul het volk tot deze eed verplicht had: `Vervloekt is de man die het waagt om iets te eten vóór vanavond, voordat ik mij op mijn vijanden heb gewroken.' Daarom gebruikte niemand enig voedsel.
