45. Maar het volk zei tegen Saul: `Moet Jonatan sterven? Hij die zo'n grote overwinning voor Israël behaald heeft? Geen denken aan! Zowaar de HEER leeft, geen haar op zijn hoofd zal worden gekrenkt, want met Gods hulp heeft hij dit vandaag gedaan.' Zo werd Jonatan door het volk bevrijd en stierf hij niet.
