17. Eens zei Saul tegen David: `Hier is Merab, mijn oudste dochter; ik zal haar jou als vrouw geven, op voorwaarde dat je in mijn dienst bewijst hoe dapper je bent, en de oorlogen van de HEER voert.' Saul dacht: `Niet mijn hand moet zich tegen hem keren, laat dat de Filistijnen maar doen.'
