43. Maar de Israëlieten antwoordden de Judeeërs: `Wij hebben tien keer meer recht op de koning; David is meer van ons dan van jullie. Waarom kleineren jullie ons dan? Zijn wij niet het eerst op de gedachte gekomen om onze koning terug te halen?' Op deze woorden van de Israëlieten kwam van de Judeeërs een nog scherper antwoord.
