40. Zo veroverde Jozua het hele land: het bergland, de Negeb, het laagland en de duinstreek, en hij doodde alle koningen. Hij liet niemand ontkomen en alles wat leefde wijdde hij aan de vernietiging, zoals de HEER, de God van Israël, had bevolen.
