1. Toen het avond was geworden achtte het gevolg van Holofernes het ogenblik gekomen om weg te gaan. Bagoas stuurde de dienaren weg en sloot de tent van buiten af. Ieder zocht zijn legerstede op, uitgeput door het overmatig drinken.
