40. Desta forma, Josué conquistou todo o país: venceu os reis da região da montanha, do Negueve, das terras da Chefela e das planícies, sem deixar sobreviventes, condenando à destruição, todos os seres vivos, como o Senhor, Deus de Israel, tinha ordenado.
