24. และคนอิสราเอลต้องทุกข์ยากในวันนั้น เพราะซาอูลได้ทรงให้ประชาชนปฏิญาณไว้ว่า "ถ้าผู้ใดรับประทานอาหารก่อนเวลาเย็นวันนี้ ก่อนเราแก้แค้นศัตรูแล้ว ให้ผู้นั้นถูกสาปแช่ง" เพราะฉะนั้นพวกพลจึงไม่รับประทานอาหารเลย
